Another community pharmacy on board to support the rollout of the vaccine to the Fylde Coast

NHS staff are delivering life-saving COVID-19 vaccines at a network of four pharmacy-run vaccination sites in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre after another service opened yesterday (Thursday).

The new site of Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish Center opened yesterday, and is run by St Annes Pharmacy in St Albans Road.

Pharmacy sites are supporting efforts to get the vaccine to people in high-risk groups as quickly as possible. The locations offering the vaccine are:

  • Our Lady Star of the Sea, Sainte-Anne
  • AFC Fylde, Wesham
  • Moor Park Health and Wellness Centre, Bispham
  • Fleetwood Health and Wellness Center

Pharmacy-run sites join large-scale vaccination centers in Blackpool Winter Gardens and nine GP-run sites to roll out the Fylde Coast COVID-19 vaccination programme.

Jane Scattergood, director of nursing and quality at NHS Blackpool and NHS Fylde and Wyre CCGs, who is also director of COVID-19 vaccination for Lancashire and South Cumbria, said: ‘While the expansion of the COVID-19 vaccination program continues to accelerate, we are delighted to see the opening of five more vaccination sites in Lancashire, to help people access their vaccines as easily and quickly as possible.

“If you have received your letter from the NHS, please do not delay – book your appointment as soon as possible, so that we can vaccinate as many people in the highest priority groups as quickly and safely as possible.”

Kath Gulson, Managing Director of Community Pharmacy Lancashire, said: “Community Pharmacy Lancashire represents 358 community pharmacies in Lancashire. We are delighted to see our pharmacists playing a role in implementing the COVID-19 vaccination program alongside our fellow GPs and other providers, supporting patients and local communities.

Community pharmacy plays a critical role in supporting the deployment of the COVID-19 vaccine. We welcome the commissioning of the second wave of community pharmacies to support the national effort to implement the program. »

In Lancashire and South Cumbria there are now nine pharmacy-led sites, along with further large-scale vaccination centers in Blackburn, Kendal, Lancaster and Ulverston, 11 hospital centers and 36 doctor-led sites generalists.

The new pharmacy-operated sites will initially vaccinate people aged 70 and over, who have received a letter inviting them to make an appointment on the national reservation system, as well as frontline health and social workers. This is in line with nationally agreed prioritization.

The range of different locations available in Lancashire and South Cumbria means people can choose the option that suits them best once they are asked to make an appointment. Those who do not wish to be vaccinated at one of the large-scale vaccination centers or at a pharmacy run site can wait to receive an invitation from their GP practice.
