Vacancy for Assistant/Associate Professor (Cross Appointment) at Qatar University College of Pharmacy – Clinical Pharmacy and Practice – 2 positions

Applications are hereby invited to fill full-time faculty positions at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor (Joint Assignment) in the Department of Clinical and Practice Pharmacy, beginning July 2022.

Cross-appointment refers to a faculty position in which the primary appointment (including academic duties, salary, and benefits) of the faculty member is with Qatar University (the primary appointing unit ), but the joint appointee is affiliated with another unit (usually Hamad Medical Corporation) in which they have a sustained professional practice interest. Typically, the formalization of the cross-appointment will take place after the faculty member has joined Qatar University and will serve as a specialist in clinical pharmacy.

General qualifications and requirements
The minimum requirements for the position(s) include the following:

assistant professor

  • candidate wishing to be appointed Assistant Professor (Joint Assignment) must possess a Ph.D. (e.g., Doctor of Clinical Pharmacy or PharmD degree) from a reputable/accredited university, with appropriate teaching and research experience and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

o Candidate who already holds the position of assistant professor in a recognized academic institution is preferred and will have an advantage.
o candidate with a terminal degree in clinical pharmacy and/or pharmacy practice and a minimum of 5 years of teaching and clinical practice experience with documented achievements in teaching, research, service and practice clinical is preferable.
o PhD candidate must have evidence of additional credentials and/or active participation in clinical practice and teaching in the relevant clinical area/specialty.
o applicant with a PharmD degree (post-baccalaureate or entry level) must have obtained post-PharmD residency and/or post-doctoral training qualifications from a recognized institution as well as at least 2 years of active clinical practice and teaching experiences in a relevant post-residency specialty clinical area.
o Applicant with a PharmD degree (post-baccalaureate or entry level) without a post-PharmD residency and/or fellowship degree from a recognized institution must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical practice and teaching in a relevant clinical specialty.

  • the candidate must have a strong research record corresponding to the rank sought, as evidenced by publications (minimum 3 publications) in reputable international peer-reviewed journals.

Associate Professor

  • candidate seeking appointment as an Associate Professor (Joint Assignment) must possess a PhD (i.e. PhD in the field of Clinical Pharmacy or PharmD degree) from a reputable/accredited university, with experience in appropriate teaching and research skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

o In general, the candidate must have met the general requirements for an assistant professor position (outlined above).
o the candidate must have already been an assistant professor in a recognized academic institution.
o Candidate who already holds the rank of Associate Professor in a recognized academic institution is preferred and will have an advantage.
o PhD candidate must have evidence of additional credentials and/or active participation in clinical practice and teaching in the relevant clinical area/specialty.
o Candidate with a PharmD degree is preferred to have obtained post-PharmD residency and/or postgraduate training qualifications from a recognized institution and at least 5 years of active clinical practice and teaching experiences in a relevant clinical specialty after residency.
o Applicant with a PharmD degree without a post-PharmD residency and/or fellowship degree from a recognized institution must have a minimum of 8 years of clinical practice and teaching experience in a relevant clinical specialty.

  • the candidate must have a strong research record corresponding to the rank sought, as evidenced by several publications (minimum 10 publications) in reputable international peer-reviewed journals.
  • applicants with demonstrated academic leadership in the form of successfully supervised postgraduate dissertations/theses, student preceptorship during experiential training, and some administrative experience will be at an advantage.

Job Description Summary

  • This is a full-time faculty position within the Department of Clinical and Practice Pharmacy. The recruited candidate will be responsible for teaching, scholarly activities, research, academic service and community service.
  • The successful candidate will teach and coordinate clinical and practice pharmacy courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • The successful candidate will establish an active independent research program that integrates undergraduate and graduate research.

o In addition, the candidate will engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other colleges in the QU health group (including colleges of medicine, dentistry, and health sciences) in teaching and research.
o A research portfolio that complements the existing research strengths established by the QU Health Cluster under the Qatar 2030 Vision is an added advantage.

  • It is also likely to be jointly appointed with one of the licensed healthcare institutions in Qatar.

o If cross-appointed to a healthcare institution in Qatar, the candidate will establish collaborative practice with practitioners and participate in the experiential training of BSc and/or PharmD students.
o If the candidate meets the criteria for cross-appointment to a healthcare delivery organization in Qatar, professional service to a partner organization is also expected. Qatar University will be the primary employer and this position is subject to academic promotion in accordance with university policy.

Remuneration/Remuneration
Salaries and other conditions of service at QU are very competitive by international standards. The job offer is commensurate with experience and rank and highly competitive.
