Vacancy for Assistant/Associate Professor (Cross Appointment) at Qatar University College of Pharmacy – Clinical Pharmacy and Practice

Applications are hereby invited to fill full-time faculty positions at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor (joint assignment) in the Department of Clinical and Practice Pharmacy, beginning in January 2023.

Joint appointment refers to a faculty position in which the primary appointment (including academic duties, salary, and benefits) of the recruited faculty member is with Qatar University (the primary appointing unit), but the joint appointee is affiliated with another unit (usually Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar) in which they have a sustained professional practice interest. Typically, the formalization of the cross-appointment will take place after the faculty member joins Qatar University, in which he will serve as a specialist in clinical pharmacy.

General qualifications and requirements
The minimum requirements for the position(s) include the following:

assistant professor

  • The candidate who wishes to be appointed assistant professor (joint assignment) must hold a first professional degree in pharmacy and be licensed to practice.
  • The candidate who wishes to be appointed assistant professor (joint assignment) must possess a terminal degree / doctorate in clinical pharmacy and / or pharmacy practice (for example, a doctorate in the field of clinical pharmacy and / or a PharmD degree with residency /accredited scholarship) from a reputable academic institution, with appropriate teaching and research experience, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Candidate with a minimum of 5 years of teaching and clinical practice experience with documented accomplishments in teaching, research, service and clinical practice is preferred.
    • Applicant with a PhD must have evidence of additional credentials (e.g. board certification, residency, etc.) and/or active participation in clinical practice and teaching in the relevant clinical area/specialty.
    • a candidate with a PhD who meets the above requirements and has a PharmD degree will have an advantage.
    • candidate with a PharmD degree (post-baccalaureate or entry level) must have obtained: an accredited post-PharmD residency and/or postgraduate training qualifications from a recognized institution as well as at least 2 years of practice active clinical and teaching experience in a post-residency in a relevant clinical specialty OR a minimum of 5 years of clinical practice and teaching experience in a relevant clinical specialty.
    • a candidate with a PharmD degree who meets the above requirements and has additional postgraduate qualifications (e.g. PhD and/or Masters) is preferred and will have an advantage.
    • Applicant who meets the above criteria and currently holds the position of Assistant Professor or equivalent at a recognized academic institution will be preferred.

  • The candidate should have a strong research and scholarship record commensurate with the rank sought, as evidenced by publications (minimum 5 relevant publications) in reputable international peer-reviewed journals.

Associate Professor

  • The candidate who wishes to be appointed Associate Professor (joint appointment) must possess a terminal degree / doctorate in clinical pharmacy and / or pharmacy practice (i.e. a doctorate in clinical pharmacy and / or a PharmD degree) d a reputable/accredited university, with appropriate degree teaching and research experience and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • in general, the candidate must have met the general requirements for an assistant professor position (outlined above).
    • the candidate must have previously been an assistant professor or equivalent in a recognized academic institution.
    • Applicant who meets the above criteria and currently holds the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent at a recognized academic institution will be preferred.

  • The candidate should have a strong research and scholarship record commensurate with the rank sought, as evidenced by multiple publications (minimum 15 relevant publications) in reputable and peer-reviewed international journals and grants (obtaining research grants ).
  • Candidate with demonstrated academic leadership in the form of successfully supervised postgraduate dissertations/theses, student preceptorship during experiential training, and some administrative experience will have an advantage.


Job Description Summary

  • This is a full-time faculty position within the Department of Clinical and Practice Pharmacy. The recruited candidate will be responsible for teaching, scholarly activities, research, academic service and community service.
  • The successful candidate will teach and coordinate clinical and practice pharmacy courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • The successful candidate will establish an active independent research program that integrates undergraduate and graduate research.
    • Additionally, the candidate will engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other colleges in the QU Health Group (including the colleges of medicine, dentistry, and health sciences) in teaching and research.
    • A research portfolio that complements the existing research strengths established by the QU Health Cluster under the Qatar 2030 Vision is an added advantage.

  • It is also likely to be jointly appointed with one of the licensed healthcare institutions in Qatar.
    • If cross-appointed at healthcare institutions in Qatar, the candidate will establish collaborative practice with practitioners and participate in the experiential training of undergraduate and/or PhD students.
    • If the candidate meets the criteria for cross-appointment in a healthcare delivery organization in Qatar, professional service to a partner organization is also expected. Qatar University will be the primary employer and this position is subject to academic promotion in accordance with university policy.

Remuneration/Remuneration
Salaries and other conditions of service at QU are very competitive by international standards. The job offer is commensurate with experience and rank and highly competitive.
