Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health

UC San Diego Health’s Jacobs Medical Center is an advanced 364-bed medical center that houses inpatient care, surgical facilities, outpatient clinics, a blood bank, and a pharmacy. It is connected to Perlman’s medical offices and includes Thornton Pavilion, an inpatient facility formerly known as Thornton Hospital. It is a short walk from the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, the Shiley Eye Institute and the Moores Cancer Center. Special features of our 10-story Jacobs Medical Center, which opened in 2016, include:

  • 10 operating rooms (ORs), including a four-operating room intraoperative imaging suite designed to support the most advanced brain and spine surgeries
  • A dedicated floor for blood and bone marrow transplant patients, with an all-floor air filtration system that allows immunocompromised patients to leave their treatment room to walk, exercise in a gym and visit family and friends
  • Care for every type of birth, including three rooms in a midwifery birthing center, 32 private postpartum rooms with rollaway beds for family members, and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) level III with 52 private rooms.
  • Dedicated family spaces with lounges and kitchenettes on each floor for hospitalized patients
  • Rooftop helicopter landing pad
  • A therapeutic art collection of 150 pieces
