HYDERABAD: Uber announced Uber Essential to facilitate essential travel for residents of Hyderabad, amid the extended national lockdown to help contain the spread of Covid-19. With the full consent of the authorities, this limited mobility solution provided transportation to passengers to essential service locations such as hospitals and pharmacies, as authorized and approved by local authorities. All Uber Essential passengers are required to bring the relevant documentation to validate the purpose of their trip with the authorities.

Prabhjeet Singh, COO and Head of Cities, Uber India and South Asia, said: “In accordance with government guidelines, we are urging people to stay safe and to discourage non-essential travel. Through Uber Essential, we selectively offer trips for essential services only to meet critical travel needs in certain cities. In the midst of the current Covid-19 crisis, we are leveraging our technology and our network of driver-partners to provide citizens with access to essential services, while helping authorities contain the spread of Covid-19. ”

Uber is committed to slowing the spread of COVID-19 and is taking all precautionary measures, as advised by public health authorities. Uber Essential driver-partners receive masks, gloves, disinfectants and safety training. Local law enforcement authorities also issue them with curfew passes to ensure smooth movement to places of essential services.

Uber Essential passengers will receive reminders via in-app messages and emails about basic steps they can take to help prevent the spread of the virus. Passengers from these cities can open the app to check the availability of UberEssential in the region.
